Cheerios and Nature Valley Granola Bars

The PSFC has stopped selling both General Mills Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal and Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars Oats & Honey

Why?

Recent testing by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has consistently found troublingly high levels of glyphosate (the ingredient in the herbicide Roundup) in these products.

Since 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” The EWG’s children’s health benchmark for glyphosate is 160 ppb.  The level found in Cheerios is 729 ppb, while the level in Nature Valley Oats & Honey Bars is 320.

The PSFC references the food safety guidelines of several independent consumer advocacy organizations including EWG and Center for Science in the Public Interest as part of our ongoing efforts to keep our store free of products that are harmful to human health.
