Bylaws Amendment Referendum Results — UPDATE
On Wednesday, July 23, the 133 paper proxy ballots from the hybrid referendum were recounted following a decision made by the Coop’s Board of Directors during the June General Meeting. Some Board members, staff, and other members attended the recount, which was carried out by two members working in shifts. The recount of the paper proxy ballots confirmed the original count, and the results did not change the initial outcome. As a result, the referendum to amend the bylaws to allow for hybrid meetings did not achieve the required 66.67% majority for approval.
The referendum to amend the bylaws to allow for hybrid meetings failed to receive a 2/3 (66.67%) majority as required by the New York State Cooperative Corporations Law and the Coop’s bylaws. 6,504 votes were cast: 66.43% in favor, 33.56% against.
Because of the close vote, the Board of Directors voted to postpone receiving the advice of the members on the referendum. The Board requested a recount of the paper proxy ballots. The recount results will be reported at the July 29 General Meeting.
